Certain variations of genes that code for structural and inflammatory proteins (e.g. collagen and interleukin-6) are found in significantly higher frequencies in people who have experienced muscular or soft tissue injury.
We therefore know that these genes are associated with injury risk, but they are not deterministic- carrying these gene variants does not guarantee that injury will occur.
While genetics do play a role, your risk of becoming injured is also heavily influenced by environmental factors. These include what physical activities you take part in, how much prehab /rehab /recovery work you do, and your training history.
